The Radcliffe Legacy and Other Oxford Stories is the final collection of short stories set in and around Oxford, written by members and friends of the Oxford Writers’ Group.
My story in this volume is The Danger of Wishes. This story was inspired by a visit to the wonderful Egyptian galleries in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The belief in magic, or heku, by the ancient Egyptians was very strong. Words spoken, or written, had a power of their own, even formulating thoughts could be dangerous. Maybe they were right. The moral of this tale is, of course, to be careful what you wish for!
